Eligibility Criteria for Aadhaar Card

  • Every citizen of India, male, female, transgender, physically or mentally differently abled, etc. is eligible for obtaining an Aadhaar card.
  • Any Non Resident Indian (NRI) or any foreign citizen residing in India can also apply for an Aadhaar card. The aim of the card is to provide unique identification to a person, and not grant citizenship. Thus, even foreign nationals residing in India can apply for an Aadhaar card.

All children over the age of 1 year can apply for Aadhaar card. Children under 5 years of age are not required to give their biometric details. Children over 5 years of age and 15 years of age need to apply for their Aadhaar card again. This is because biometric information given between 5 to 15 years undergoes many changes as the child grows. Thus, re-registering becomes necessary after 15 years of age.

You no longer need to stand in a queue or go to the Aadhaar card office to help you change your address, birthdate or spelling mistake in your name. It can all be done on a click of a button online.

Your registered mobile number will receive a code that will help you complete the changes easily. If you still have not added the mobile number to your Aadhaar card, you can do so by following the simple steps given below.



Adding Mobile Number to Aadhaar Card


1. You need to visit the https://uidai.gov.in/update-your-aadhaar-data.html

2. You can read the instructions given and then click on Update Data Online.

3. You will be guided to a new window where you can read all the detailed instructions to help you make or add changes to your Aadhaar card.

4. At the end of the page, click on the link given- To submit your update/ correction request by post please CLICK HERE to download the correction form.

5. A new window will open with a form that is titled Aadhaar Data Update/Correction Form for Request through Post.

6. Save the form and download it to your PC. Take a printout of this form. Alternately, you can visit the nearest Aadhaar Card Center and ask for the update/correction form.

7. Fill this form carefully; you need to tick on the Mobile box in the first column.

8. Next, enter your name, gender, date of birth, address, Aadhaar card number, Mobile Number (you wish to link) as well as email address.

9. Write the name of the valid document you attach as your proof of identity, proof of address and proof of date of birth.

10. Make sure you write the Aadhaar card number on every copy of the document attached along with the form.

11. Sign or give your thumb expression

12. Place the form in an envelope along with the attached and attested document copies and send it to either of the given addresses:
