- Every citizen of India, male, female, transgender, physically or mentally differently abled, etc. is eligible for obtaining an Aadhaar card.
- Any Non Resident Indian (NRI) or any foreign citizen residing in India can also apply for an Aadhaar card. The aim of the card is to provide unique identification to a person, and not grant citizenship. Thus, even foreign nationals residing in India can apply for an Aadhaar card.
All children over the age of 1 year can apply for Aadhaar card. Children under 5 years of age are not required to give their biometric details. Children over 5 years of age and 15 years of age need to apply for their Aadhaar card again. This is because biometric information given between 5 to 15 years undergoes many changes as the child grows. Thus, re-registering becomes necessary after 15 years of age.
